A suspect, Angel Florian, 22, already facing an attempted murder charge in New Jersey, has now been arrested in connection to the 2019 slaying of Trinitarios gang member, Alberto Martinez in Manhattan. Florian was apprehended on May 9 in New Jersey, where he was incarcerated for allegedly shooting a teenager and engaging in a robbery spree. The shooting of Martinez, 27, occurred on October 3, 2019, in Washington Heights during a late-night clash.
Subsequently, police released photos of two suspects believed to be involved in the murder. In September 2022, a Manhattan grand jury indicted Florian on charges of murder, robbery, weapon possession, and hindering prosecution. At the same time, he was also being tried for shooting an 18-year-old man, who fortunately survived the assault.
Florian is not the only one charged with Martinez's murder. Jerson Acosta-Batista was apprehended in New Jersey in October 2022 and charged with the same offenses. Intriguingly, both Acosta-Batista and Florian reside in New Jersey and have no criminal history in New York. It remains unclear which suspect pulled the trigger and who served as the getaway driver.
Martinez, who lived near the crime scene, had a lengthy criminal record, with 15 arrests involving gang assault and weapons possession.
