Central Park's historic Loeb Boathouse partially reopens, introducing a new operator, cafe menu, and colorful boats for visitors to enjoy throughout summer.

Central Park's cherished Loeb Boathouse has partially reopened in time for the summer season. After financial struggles and closure last year, the iconic destination now features a new cafe menu, a new operator, and an array of vibrant boats.

The boat rentals and cafe are situated on the building's north side. The area includes an 80-seat outdoor patio and operates seven days a week. Visitors can enjoy a range of fresh options, from $4 pastries to $25 lobster rolls, all conveniently packaged to go.

The famous main dining room, which overlooks the lake, remains closed as renovations continue. New operator Legends anticipates reopening the dining room in late summer or early fall.

Boat prices have increased slightly this year, with a fee of $25 per hour, up from $20. The Boathouse offers 100 boats on a first-come, first-serve basis. Online reservations will soon be available through OpenTable. Each boat has a maximum capacity of four people, and children under 12 are required to wear life jackets.

Hospitality giant Legends took over management of the historic eatery in February after the Boathouse closed on December 31, 2020 due to rising costs. The initial closure occurred in October 2020, amid the pandemic. The venue briefly reopened in spring 2021 before shutting down again.

Announcing the new operator in February, Mayor Adams expressed optimism that the Boathouse would return better than ever. Tourists and New Yorkers alike could soon enjoy the beautiful space and scenery once more.

The original Central Park Boathouse dates back to the 1870s. The modern iteration opened in March 1954 and has remained popular with locals and tourists. This iconic location even appeared in films like "When Harry Met Sally" and "The Manchurian Candidate."
