Anheuser-Busch InBev CMO, Marcel Marcondes, discusses the impact of Bud Light's controversy involving a partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, resulting in the brand's decline in sales.

Anheuser-Busch InBev's top marketing executive, Marcel Marcondes, addressed the recent boycott of Bud Light that led to the brand losing its title as America's top-selling beer. Marcondes emphasized the importance of humility for marketers during divisive times.

Bud Light's sales plummeted following a controversial partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, which spurred anti-trans backlash and calls for a boycott. LGBTQ+ advocates expressed their frustration at the company's inadequate response to the situation.

Marcondes shared his thoughts at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. He encouraged brands facing challenges to stay open to learning and understanding their customers. Camilla Lambert, a spokesperson for the festival, confirmed Marcondes' comments.

Modelo Especial, a Mexican lager, has now dethroned Bud Light as America's top-selling beer. Bud Light's sales dropped 24% during the four weeks ending June 3, according to recent data.

Marcondes, however, expressed optimism about Bud Light's future. He announced plans for the brand to reconnect with consumers by traveling around the country and stated, "It's coming back."
